    Leadership Succession at SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre and National Cancer Centre Singapore

    Professor Soo Khee Chee, Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer (Research & Education),
    SingHealth; Director, National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) and Academic Chair,
    SingHealth Duke-NUS Oncology Academic Clinical Programme; will retire from SingHealth
    on 31 December 2017. He relinquished the appointment as Director of NCCS, with effect
    from 26 November 2017.

    Professor Wong Tien Yin will be appointed Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer (Research
    & Education), SingHealth with effect from 1 January 2018.

    Associate Professor William Hwang Ying Khee was appointed Medical Director of NCCS
    and Academic Chair, SingHealth Duke-NUS Oncology Academic Clinical Programme,
    effective from 26 November 2017.

    SingHealth and A*STAR to advance medical research in diabetes; immunotherapy and drug development; and precision medicine
    SingHealth and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) announced a strategic research partnership focused on three areas: Smart Health for diabetes, pursuing innovations in immunotherapy and drug development, and precision medicine. The partnership seeks to address prevalent diseases in Asian populations that carry a heavy economic burden, improve healthcare delivery and create value for the economy. Mr S. Iswaran, Minister for Trade and Industry (Industry), witnessed the inking of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two organisations.

    SingHealth Launches New Study on Pre-Diabetes in Singapore

    SingHealth Duke-NUS Diabetes Centre in collaboration with the Health Promotion Board and Singapore Clinical Research Institute have commenced a new study to understand the effectiveness of a diabetes prevention programme in Singapore. The study is endorsed by the National Diabetes Prevention and Care Taskforce, and funded by the Ministry of Health. The Pre-DICTED (Pre-Diabetes Interventions & Continued Tracking to Ease out Diabetes) programme, which consists of lifestyle and pharmacological interventions, is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to make lifestyle changes to reduce their risk of developing diabetes.

    The SingHealth Duke-NUS Gala Dinner 2017 closed on a high note with more than $32.5 million raised to further medical research and education. More than 700 guests attended the event at the Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, with Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) & Second Minister for Defence, Mr Ong Ye Kung, gracing the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

The new look will create a cohesive identity for nurses working across different care settings and help patients and the public identify SingHealth nurses more easily.

    Media Statement: Findings of Investigation into National Dental Centre Singapore Incident

    SingHealth has completed its investigations into the incident at the National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS) where 72 packs of instruments which had undergone thermal washer disinfection but had not completed the final step of steam sterilisation, were used for patient treatment on 5 and 6 June 2017. Following the incident, a full investigation was launched. It was overseen by the SingHealth Risk Oversight Committee, a committee of the SingHealth Board. A report of the findings and follow-up actions has been submitted to the Ministry of Health on 30 June 2017.

    SingHealth launches Care Coordinator Associate Programme to strengthen integrated care delivery in the community

    SingHealth Regional Health System today launched the Care Coordinator Associate programme to build a pipeline of healthcare staff to strengthen care delivery in the community.  CCAs at SingHealth will play a vital role in coordinating and navigating patient care. Working alongside the multidisciplinary care team, they will journey with patients with multiple chronic conditions to ensure that they are well-supported even after their discharge from the hospital.

    New National Cancer Centre Singapore Building by 2022

    Minister for Health Gan Kim Yong officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony for the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) new building at SGH Campus. With rising cancer incidence in Singapore, the new NCCS building will be four times larger than the current centre to meet future needs. Located on SGH Campus, the new one-stop 24-storey NCCS will house facilities dedicated to cancer care and rehabilitation, research and education. The building is targeted to be ready by 2022.

    Tripartite Collaboration to Build Healthcare Capabilities in Post-Disaster Recovery in Nepal

    Over 560 healthcare professionals from Nepal will participate in a post-disaster recovery training programme jointly developed by the Government of Nepal and SingHealth, Singapore’s largest public healthcare group. The three-year programme is supported by S$592,850 ($43.6million Nepalese rupees) in grant funding from Temasek Foundation International, with assistance and in-kind contribution by the Government of Nepal and SingHealth.

    Leadership Succession at Singapore General Hospital and KK Women’s And Children’s Hospital

    Professor Ang Chong Lye, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore General Hospital (SGH) since 2008, will pass the leadership baton to Professor Kenneth Kwek, currently Deputy Chief Executive Officer, SGH and Chief Executive Officer of KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH).

    Professor Kwek, will relinquish his role as CEO of KKH and hand over the reins to Professor Alex Sia who is currently Chairman, Medical Board of KKH. Associate Professor Ng Kee Chong will be appointed as the new Chairman, Medical Board of KKH.   

    Professor Alex Sia will succeed Professor Kwek as CEO of KKH. Succeeding Professor Sia as the new Chairman, Medical Board of KKH, is Associate Professor Ng Kee Chong who is currently Chairman, Division of Medicine of KKH.

    More than 200 Nurse Leaders From Across Asia in Singapore for Inaugural Asia Nurse Leadership Forum

    More than 200 nurse leaders from 10 Asian countries have gathered in Singapore for the inaugural Temasek Foundation International @ 10 Asia Nurse Leaders Forum, organised by SingHealth and Singapore Nurses Association. Held from 10 to 12 April 2017 at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) Campus, the Forum was officially opened by Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for Health and Environment and Water Resources. The event is part of a series of forums and networking programmes supported by Temasek Foundation International to mark its tenth year of partnerships in building capabilities in Asia and beyond.

    SingHealth and SCDF Collaborate to Advance Pre-Hospital Emergency Care and Paramedical Training for the Nation

    SingHealth and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance pre-hospital emergency care and training for paramedics in Singapore. Mr Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, witnessed the signing ceremony between Professor Ivy Ng, Group Chief Executive Officer of SingHealth and Mr Eric Yap, Commissioner of SCDF.

    At the event, SingHealth also launched five colleges and a medical simulation institute under its education arm, SingHealth Academy, to boost health manpower training and development. The new colleges and institute launched include the College of Clinical Medicine, College of Clinical Nursing, College of Allied Health, College of Clinical Dentistry, College of Healthcare Administration and Leadership, as well as the SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of Medical Simulation.
